If I could raise children with a keen sense of wonder toward the world and an appreciation of nature and the way the Earth is supposed to be, I think I'd have done a good job. My friend's dad took this picture of his grandson with a regular camera, so that must be some real irregular lake! Isn't it amazing?

Gorgeous, no?

Almost makes me want to plan another wedding.

Geometric Prints

Of course, the other reason for the blog is to catalogue inspirational pictures, so that I don't have to keep growing my clear files filled with bits of paper and magazine clippings. I love the latter two pictures, the first two are a bit too chintz modern British for my taste but I love the more geometric, rather than printed, fabrics. I particularly love the trend of putting down boldly geometric carpets, which is the new 'in' compared to the natural hemp/seagrass that used to dominate the design world. What do you think?

A world of ideas

I had a friend say the other day that she could see I'd never left the wedding world. In fact, that's actually not true, it took awhile but I did wean myself off StyleMePretty and OnceWed and other consummate wedding blogs. But I do go back to them from time to time, the same way I breeze by Matchbook and 100 Layer Cake, it's nothing to do with weddings exactly, but just to keep your aesthetic sense going.

To know when the clutter, when to de-clutter, when to create and when to minimalise. To get ideas and to consolidate ideas- like these giant letters, I've been hung up on them for awhile but I love, love the kick of yellow in the dark brown hues. I love the wood surfaces and the fancy simplicity and intimacy of the dinner tables, so easy and effective to dress up. I want to try it for one of my dad or Z's birthdays.




I also love this Betsy Dunlap calligraphy, what an adorable idea and so well executed with these simple sheath flower girl outfits and ballet flats. For some reason, people usually put their flower girls in stiff, big flounce dresses, I guess mirroring the bride but I'm a big fan of complementing rather than overwhelming their small slim bodies by keeping it simple, young and just bordering on chic-pretty, with a chiffon bodice or sequinned detail hairband, or in this case the rosette belt, pearl bracelet and dainty hair flowers.

I also love the bunting, made out of sheared cloth, lace and gauze pennants. So unique, ethereal and wonderfully colour coordinated.

Putting together supermarket flowers

From time to time, when I'm really desperate, I buy some flowers from the supermarket. One really shouldn't, because they are at such elevated prices but it does save an awful amount of time and a trip to Thomson. Cobbled together this really simple bouquet, purple and pink amaryllis and cream pink eustomias. Not my usual colours at all but I just liked how the petals and stamen colours blended nicely and the full shape still has blossoms at different heights.

Peonies!

I was in the nursery this weekend because I wanted to buy a flower treat for the table. I was going to buy two bunches of lilac hyacinths and then chanced upon these beauties. There were white peony buds, dark fuschia ones, dark blood red ones and these. Aren't they gorgeous?
